The C1 Corvette.

Conceptually and dimensionally a copy of the Jaguar XK120.

The first Corvette is a dream car with a fiberglass body at the GM Motorama held in January 1953 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City. Styled by the Chevrolet design studio of Clare MacKichan, the C1 is conceptually (and even dimensionally) a copy of the Jaguar XK120.

It features a 150-hp in-line-six engine and a two-speed automatic transmission, plus a wraparound windshield cribbed from the 1938 Hispano-Suiza Dubonnet Xenia.

The face-lifted 1956 C1 gets a dramatic door cove cribbed from a Pininfarina-styled Ferrari.

Very cool paint, the stripes over the wheels, and the louvers in the Mexican natl colors...

XKC 029 was originally exported via the Californian Jaguar dealer Hornburg to Mexico. It ran in both the 1953 and 1954 Carrera Panamericana races with sponsorship from the state of Mexico ‘Estado de Mexico’ in 1953 and ‘Veracruz’ in 1954, making it the only Jaguar C-Type to have competed on the original Carrera Panamericana. The driver for both years was local legend ‘Paco’ Ibarra and in 1954 he was partnered by Nickey Pinal.

Highly original throughout, it has been returned to its 1954 livery and caused a stir at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed where it was demonstrated on behalf of the owner. It was then invited that August to attend The Quail in California where it won its class.

who saved Land Rover and Jaguar? Not a single person from England. Not even an English company. Why is that?

Ratan Tata saved them both.

He started working in a steel mill, shoveling limestone and handling the blast furnace. Now he owns JLR, Jaguar Land Rover.

That is very remarkable.

He paid half of the price Ford did.

Now JLR is the largest investor in automotive R and D and engineering in England, and is the largest automaker in England.

An SCCA undefeated Jaguar D Type, sold to a 17 year old high school student who took it to Bonneville, and went 185 mph, it's the fastest D Type ever at B-ville

Supplied to Hoffman, USA, XKD 529 had a 2nd owner in the Briggs Cunningham race team, who, with Walt Hansgen driving, won SCCA C-Modified Championships in 1956 and 1957. It was then sold to Thomas Rutherford (Massachusetts) who went with a long legged 2.53 axle, disc-type wheels and exhaust exiting at rear, took it to Bonneville where car achieved speed of 185.47mph, the highest officially recorded by a D-type. A record that held for 55 years.

It didn't do much after that, except survive a tornado, and the Firestones from 1960 are still on it.

It sold for 1,815,000 at 2005 Monterey http://blog.supercars.net/blog/1954-jaguar-d-type/ when the Walter Hill Jaguar collection was auctioned off, where it had been sharing a garage with 2 or the 16 XK-SS

It did go to the Oakland Roadster Show, I read somewhere, but can't find jack on the internet about 1959-62 ORS participants to verify that
